Dress code will be checked daily by teacher and / or aide each morning during announcements.

The following guidelines for dress apply to ALL BELLS ELEMENTARY STUDENTS:
(Pre-K – 5th Grade)

  1. Head apparel (hats, caps, hoods, etc.) and / or sunshades may not be worn unless the school is sponsoring a specific spirit day.
  2. Shirts or blouses must be long enough to cover the midriff and back when arms are raised above the head.

Tank tops, mesh shirts, tops with spaghetti straps, see-through clothing, halters, or low cut shirts may not be worn.  Neckline should be no more than 4 fingers lower than the bottom of the neck.  Sleeveless shirts (both boys and girls) must be tight enough under the arms to prevent embarrassing exposure.
  4. Articles of clothing with drug, alcohol, and tobacco advertisements are not allowed.  Clothing that contains pictures or writing that is provocative, suggestive, rude, designed to draw attention, or causes a distraction to normal school activities may not be worn.  No wording or pictures across the seat of pants or shorts will be allowed.
  5. Shorts must be longer “walking short” knee length style (no more than 3 inches above the knee, front, back, and sides).  Skirts must meet the same guidelines for length as shorts.
  6. Girls must wear shorts under all skirts.  (These shorts should have at least 4” inseams.)
  7. Excessively tight fitting garments may not be worn.  Tights or leggings may only be worn under skirts or dresses that are no more than 3 inches above the knee.
  8. Pants must be in good repair with no holes, cuts, rips, or ragged/ frayed edges.
  9. Excessively baggy pants or shorts are not allowed.  No chains, wallet chains, dog collars, spiked collars/ wristbands, or heavy chain necklaces will be allowed.
  10. Belts will be worn if pants or shorts cannot be held up in the proper position.  Students who cannot maintain their pants or shorts in the proper position will be sent to the office.
  11. Males may not wear earrings.  Females may not wear dangling earrings over one inch in length.  All other body piercing jewelry is prohibited.
  12. Hair should be clean, well groomed, and out of eyes.  Hair extensions, inappropriately colored hair, hair glitter, and distracting hairstyles are not permitted.
  13. Boys’ hair must not extend past the bottom of the shirt collar, below the earlobes, or below the eyebrows.   No pony tails, no extreme hair cuts, or symbols cut into the hair will be allowed for boys.
  14. Shoes will be worn at all times and be of a style appropriate for the activity.
  15. Tennis shoes are required for PE classes.  (These same tennis shoes can be worn during the school day.)  Mules (shoes without backs) or “strapped in the back” tennis shoes may not be worn for PE class.  Shoe laces must be tied tight enough so that the shoes will not slide off without untying.
  16. The following types of shoes are not allowed:
    1. skate shoes
    2. shoes with cleats
    3. shoes with more than 2 inch heels
    4. house shoes
  17. Makeup is not allowed, including eyeliner, glitter lotion, and fake fingernails.
  18. Sticker tattoos are not allowed.
  19. Sleep wear should not be worn to school.  No pajamas and /or house shoes unless the school is sponsoring a specific spirit day.

From time to time “fads” show up on our campus.  We are not listing these, nor are we trying to make a regulation to cover all problems that may arise.  If a “fad” becomes distracting, it will be eliminated.

Boys and girls must attend classes in apparel appropriate to a public education situation.  Question or concerns relating to student dress should be referred to the principal.  (903-965-7725)
