The Dixie Softball Scholarship Application for 2012 is DUE March 1st. If you played Dixie league softball for 2 seasons come by and get this application.

The Grayson County College Foundation Scholarship Committee will be meeting in mid‐late April to review scholarship applications that have been submitted to the GCC Office of Financial Aid for the 2012/2013 academic year. Although we will continue to consider applications up until the beginning of the fall semester, our “Priority Consideration Deadline” each year is MARCH 15.

Reminder students---absences and grades are factors in determining who has to be here for flex days.

If you ordered a powerlifting shirt from Coach Rolen, you need to get the money to him by Friday.

The Steppers are helping the BES 5th graders raise money for their annual trip to Camp Jolt. They are selling survival bracelets made from actual parachute cord. Check them out. Megan Waggoner has a few and Mrs. Jones has many more.

Bells is hosting a 4on4 Coed volleyball tournament on February 25^th. Entries with payments are due by February 22. We have information sheets in the office. Come by and get a form if you are interested in participating.

The following groups need to report to the new gym today at the beginning of 4^th period for pictures-- One Act Play, Student Council, Choir and Spirit Club

Tryouts for Steppers and Cheerleaders will begin tomorrow in the old gym. Steppers will begin at 11:30 followed by cheer try-outs.

Take a chance and win a Valentine treat or free large pizza from Domino’s. You heard correctly. The Steppers are selling raffle tickets. You could win a sweet Valentine gift or a pizza that will be delivered during your lunch on Valentine’s Day. Every stepper and manager is selling tickets. If you see one of the Valentine gifts you just can’t live without, the Steppers will be happy to sell you a ticket. If you want to buy a chance for one of the gifts--- you can purchase a ticket for .50 cents. If you want to try for the Domino’s pizza, that ticket is $1.00. Any questions- see a Stepper.

Seniors—If you haven’t ordered your cap and gown yet, you need to do so by February 11^th. If ordered after the 11^th, Balfour will charge you an additional $15.00. They do not accept orders over the phone, but you can go to Balfour.com to place an order or you can mail in your order. Come see me for information.

This past weekend a number of band students competed at the UIL Solo

and Ensemble contest held at Prosper High School. We would like to congratulate the following students who received first place on their Solos-- Karlee Hall and Kelsie Booe. The next group of students, who have also received a first place, will be advancing to the State UIL Solo and Ensemble contest held in Austin: The brass quartet—Dakota Mulkey, Jordan Stowers, Weston Russell, and Nathan Young, The Woodwind quartet-- Delaney Archer, Taylor Metz, Kay Jette, and Kelsie Booe. The percussion ensemble-- Karlee Hall, Seth Kells, Mack Pickle, Hunter Glatt, and Kaylee Glatt. Sophia Novak will also be advancing to State on her violin solo.

Again, congratulations to those students who competed.

Lincoln College of Technology is hosting a free Scholarship Event!

When: Saturday, January 28, 2012

Where: 2915 Alouette Drive, Grand Prairie, TX 75052

Time: 9:30 a.m

This special event provides the opportunity to take tours of our campus and learn about financial aid. Students have the opportunity to take a scholarship exam to see if they qualify for one of the many Lincoln College Scholarships awarded each year. An antique racecar from NASCAR, NHRA dragster and several other vehicles will be staged throughout the campus for you to check out.

Bells Youth Sports will have sign- ups for the 2012 baseball and softball season. It will be here in the HS commons tonight (1/27) from 6:30-8:30. Please let your younger siblings know about this date.

It's soon to be Valentine's Day and it's always special to send friends and loved ones a gift from your heart. Let the Steppers help- the girls will be selling raffle tickets for Valentine goodies. Also, the Steppers will be selling raffle tickets for a free large pizza that will be delivered to you during your lunch on February 14th. The girls will display the raffle gifts during the lunches, but you can purchase tickets anytime during the day.

If you are interested in trying out for Steppers dance team, then stop by the office to pick up the Tryout and expectation packet. In the packet, there is a permission form that must be signed by you and your parent. The form may be turned in to the high school office, to Mrs. Jones in the Mac Lab at the Junior High, or given to one of this year’s Stepper officers. The packet also includes important dates regarding the tryouts. It is imperative that you read all the information and turn in the forms required for the tryout process.

All cheer try-out participants need to get your packets in by the end of the day on Friday.

All dual credit students come by today and see me so we can make sure you are enrolled in the correct classes this semester. I received the list from Grayson, so we need to verify the information and make corrections if needed.

Lady Panthers and Panthers will take on Pottsboro tonight here. The Girls JV game will begin at 4:00.

SBY taco supper will be tonight in the new commons.

Reminder about the Christmas drive. If you want to purchase tickets for a chance to win a steak dinner, come by the office and see Mrs. Flores or a representative from your class. Anyone can sell tickets, but you need to get them from a class representative. Also, the class that buys the most tickets will win a trip to the Frisco mall. If we reach our goal as a school, we will all go to the movies. We will have the drawing for the steak dinner at the end of break today so if you have any tickets that you have sold, you need to bring them to the office at the beginning of break.

Yearbook personalization ends January 23. Order soon!

Sophomores will be taking a pre ACT test tomorrow morning. Sophomores will take the test in the commons beginning with first period. All other students will need to avoid the commons until testing is complete. You will have to go around the other way.

Bells High School is selling poinsettias for the holidays, and all proceeds will go to Jessica Glatt and her family. Please take these fliers home and ask your family and friends if they want to purchase a poinsettia. We need to have a count by Monday, so if you haven’t placed your order yet, please let us know on Monday how many plants you will need.

Something else we want to start doing each morning since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, is announce something we are thankful for. Students and Teachers, if you have something you are thankful for, just right it down and I will announce it. If you don’t want me to announce your name I won’t. I think we need to start recognizing each other and letting everyone hear the good things that are happening around us. Mrs. Monroe says she has many blessings to be thankful for--- health, family, friends, a wonderful church home, her job, teachers and students who really care about each other, and she is thankful that she has the freedom to express her thoughts today.

Tomorrow during both lunches you will be voting on class favorites.

As soon as break is over this morning everyone will report to the new gym. We are having a guest speaker this morning. It’s just going to be the high school this morning, so let’s try to fill up the stadium seating first.

She is thankful for those students who decide to join the military and serve because they make it possible for the others who don’t want to join and instead go to college possible. They also protect us and keep us safe, and for that she is thankful.

Picture orders are due Friday November 4. Also, retakes will be November 21.

Reminder that the Fall Festival is this Saturday 10:00- 4:00. Lots of activities including costume contest, cake walk, silent auction. All kinds of games and activities. Texoma Regional Blood Center will also be there if you want to “Fall into the habit of saving lives by donating a pint of blood”.

Teachers--- 3^rd period please pass out the Team Jessica fliers to all students. Bells High School is selling poinsettias for the holidays, and all proceeds will go to Jessica Glatt and her family. Our goal is to sell 300 hundred poinsettias and we have already sold 83 of them just from teachers and staff in the district. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By participating in schook anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena.

· Special Agent Camarena was an 11-year veteran of the DEA assigned to the Guadalajara, Mexico, office where he was on the trail of the country’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers. In 1985, he was extremely close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline.

· On February 7, 1985, he was kidnapped, brutally tortured, and murdered by Mexican drug traffickers. His tragic death opened the eyes of many Americans to the dangers of drugs and the international scope of the drug trade.

We would like to congratulate the Bells Panther Band who competed this past Saturday at the Chickasaw Marching Band Festival. The band received first place in their division. Out of the 15 bands that competed at the contest, the Panther Band placed 5th overall. Again, congratulations to the Bells Panther Band.

Each class will show their spirit and skills by decorating their area to reflect the theme of “Hollywood Homecoming”. The winning class will be selected on Thursday, September 29^th and announced at the Pep Rally. The winning class will receive a Pizza Party courtesy of the Athletic Booster club. The next ACT is October 22^nd and the registration deadline is September 16^th. The next SAT is October 1 and the deadline to register is September 9^th.

Students, please remember to return your registration packets including the drug testing policy. If you have returned your packet and the drug policy form by Friday your name will be included in a drawing for 4 $25 Wal Mart gift cards. On the flip side of that, if you have not returned your packets by Tuesday you will be the grand prize winner of break detention.

Student Council members--- today is the day. Mr. Wheeler wants your ads, and unused ad papers turned in today.

Congratulations to the Lady Panthers on their victory last night against Wolfe City. Varsity will play Friday night here beginning at 4:30.

JV Football will play here tomorrow night against Honey Grove. The Varsity will travel to Honey Grove Friday night to take on the Warriors.

We will have a pep rally Friday at 1:30.

Reminder that we are finished with schedule changes. The only changes we are making now involve trying to level a few larger classes. Teachers, thank you for your patience the last couple of days while we were getting through all of the changes.

Our Volleyball team will be hosting a tournament starting today. Our Lady Panthers will play at 5:00 and 7:00 on tonight so come out and support our team.

Also, the JV Football team will have a game here tonight against Trenton beginning at 7:00. The Varsity will be traveling to City View on Friday. Directions are on the district website on the athletics page. Tomorrow is "maroon out for the mustangs" so everyone needs to wear maroon in support of our team.
